Memo 291: Office Maxing With My Co-Werker

Let me tell you how I met Carolyn.

We were at a brand-sponsored event in the city with a room full of Bloggers and Influencers. Let me be the first to tell you that the rooms if you let them, can be a little intimidating.

Imagine it.

Every girl is dressed to the nines, trying to look cool and a little above it all. I’m not sure who set this tone but it’s definitely ever-present at most industry events. It’s like “Girl, we’re all cute. Get over yourself, grab a cocktail and join in on this conversation”.

So, that tone usually welcomes you at the start of most events until someone (or a few glasses of Rosé) comes along to break the ice. You can almost feel the pressure being released from the room.

The major key is no one is above it all, they’re ultimately just looking for another kind or familiar face.

Anyway, Carolyn was standing across the room looking cool, calm and collected in a Tory Burch wrap. I went over to her with my friendly ass and promptly asked her to run down the details of her entire look. One compliment sparked the conversation that led to lunch, drinks, social media stalking, DM slide-age and this co-werker collaboration.

Tiff Tip: In this industry, you will have to put aside your pride and just recognize flyness and creativity when you see it.

Werkers, meet Carolyn of The C Statement.
